<itunes:summary>If you have ever wanted to publish Composer content to a PDF, and wanted to change the look of the resulting PDF file, this is the podcast episode you have been waiting for!

Again it was Jonathan who showed me a great idea: use a familiar tool like Word or PowerPoint to build the layout of your desired PDF template, then convert it to a PDF. Then it is a simple matter to use Adobe Acrobat to indicate where Composer should embed the 3D content.

Then Presto! Your Composer data can now be easily embedded into your customized PDF file.</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:summary>This week I would like to welcome a guest podcaster from SolidWorks Germany,nbsp; Markus Koechl, who not only brings us a great tip, but also brought us our very first German-language podcast last week!

Today Markus demonstrates how to use 3DVIA Composer to import CAD sub-assemblies and have them automatically and properly positioned relative to other sub-assemblies. This powerful ability allows massive assemblies -- along with multi-CAD assemblies -- to be broken up and easily imported into 3DVIA Composer. You may never have seen the full assembly before, or may not even have the full assembly at all, and now you can bring all of the data together into a high-performing 3DVIA Composer environment for repurposing into 2D and 3D documentation.

Markus also describes the "Project Mode" of 3DVIA Composer, and cites some of the benefits of using this mode. Many thanks to Markus for this excellent example!

If you have ideas, like these, for future 3DVIA Composer podcast episodes, please let us know!</itunes:summary>

Watch closely as he performs the following:

	Creates BOM id's using part names and meta properties

	Quickly changes the styling of the balloons
	Updates a view with his changes
	Outputs the view to an interactive line art (CGM4 or SVG) while controlling the desired line weights of outlines, silhouettes, and shadows

It takes Tod less then 5 minutes to cover these topics and generate a fully interactive technical illustration. And if that isn't fast enough, it would take him less than 30 seconds if he wasn't providing the instructions!

Now think about how much more productive your technical illustrators could be if they were using 3DVIA Composer...</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:summary>Have you ever spent hours to create a complicated exploded view, with thrust lines and callouts, only to have to re-do it when engineering makes a change on you?

This week, Tod Cruikshank shows us how to quickly create exploded views for technical illustrations. While in animation mode, he uses an innovative set of 3DVIA Composer functions to complete his demonstration. In particular he:

	uses "associative paths" to create jagged thrust lines in one easy step;
	uses a combination of assembly motion and part motion to create those thrust lines;
	moves one part in an assembly, and then quickly applies that placement to other selected parts;
	creates convenient hot keys to further increase the pace of his work.

When I first saw this technique, I was blown away at how fast these illustrations can be created. I hope you are just as amazed when you watch this week's podcast. If you are looking to reduce your time to market, use 3DVIA Composer to speed up your technical illustration process!</itunes:summary>

Back in Episode #64, you saw a great example of the power of 3DVIA Sync Integration and the ease and speednbsp;by which a SmarTeam integration can be built.

This podcast shows another example of integrating 3DVIA Composer into ENOVIA SmarTeam, in particular the ability to update Composer data with meta data modifications. The combination of Composer's XML structure, associative labels that reflect current meta data values, and the ability to tie it all together into SmarTeam provides exceptionally robust capabilities for just about any customer-specific integration requirement.</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:summary>Here is a great sample given to us from Richard Hale of Xype. The effective use of standard icons is prevalent in this example, and is used to ensure efficient information transfer from the author to the consumer of the data. Standardized icons and symbols ensure that the end user has a consistent visual aid to accompany the animated procedure. The icons can also be used as "hotspots" or links to provide an enhanced level of interactivity with the 3D document.

Thanks to Richard for sharing this sample and for showcasing how a simple standarization can further enhance the learning curve to add coherence and reliability for all parties involved.

If you have ever wanted to capture only a sub-set of information for a particular view -- such as the camera, or a part's position and color -- and then apply that information to another view, you can easily do this with intelligent views.

 <itunes:summary>We are often asked about whether 3DVIA Composer can be integrated into a PDM or PLM system. The answer, of course, is a resounding "yes". With the power of 3DVIA Sync Integration and our open XML architecture, our customers have been able to create very robust integrations to their business systems such as Agile, SmarTeam, ENOVIA VPM, and many others. And the best part is thatnbsp;they were able to complete those integrations very quickly.

Jonathan RIONDETnbsp;was in Dassault Systegrave;mes Russia last week andnbsp;had the chance to meet Evgeniy FEDOTOV, one of the application engineers for ENOVIAnbsp;SmarTeam. To prove how easy it is to integrate 3DVIA Composer into SmarTeam, he was able to insert our free 3DVIA Player ActiveX control into SmarTeam, to enable 3DVIA Player as the viewer for SmarTeam.nbsp;He was then able tonbsp;create a batch update command using 3DVIA Sync Integration, and even create this amazing demonstration of the integrated capabilities.

This podcast episodenbsp;shows how CATIA and 3DVIA Composer content is not only managed within SmarTeam, but it demonstrates that as the CATIA data is modified into a new release, the 3DVIA Composer content is automatically updated by SmarTeam.

And if that isn't enough to get you excited, how about this: this integration was completed in less than 1 hour!

Many thanks to Mr. Fedotov for preparing this example.

Many people are familiar with this illusion of the "old lady, young lady" image. This old/new paradigm seems to be all the rage lately. On American television, we witness countless new reality shows featuring celebrities from the 80s and 90s, desperately trying to find new fame. While sometimes entertaining, there is also an embarrassing undertone [...]

 <itunes:summary>This week I am pleased to bring to you a podcast from solidworksheard.com, a site dedicated to providing tips, tricks, tutorials, or tech news on all things SolidWorks.nbsp;

In this episode, Lou Gallonbsp;offers his expert opinions and insightsnbsp;after taking a 3DVIA Composer training class. He discusses what the product does and how it fits into the SolidWorks family of products. He explains why 3DVIA Composer is not a "replacement" to existing tools, but is a wonderful compliment to help bridge the gap between CAD tools and documentation layout and publishing tools.

Lou also talks about the other modules of 3DVIA Composer, and highlights some examples and use cases as to when you would need to use them and what value they will bring.

And my favorite part comes at the end of the podcast -- when you will hear Lou say how much he liked using the software. It's yet another echo of what we hear from so many users, and is something of which we are very proud: our users love using 3DVIA Composer and how much productivity it brings to their everyday activities.</itunes:summary>

We have said this many times: visualization is not enough; viewing 3D geometry does not add any value to anybody, whatsoever!
That may sound like a provocative statement, but this humorous anecdote from clientcopia.com is a great example that not only is visualization not enough, it can be downright confusing.
Humor aside, it is not enough to [...]

This week, Christophe Delfino demonstrates a new capability that was released with 3DVIA Composer V6R1. If you have ever wanted the ability to control the rendering mode on a per-part basis, we were listening.nbsp;With "custom rendering" mode in V6R1,nbsp;you can now create views thatnbsp;mix some parts in silhouette mode and some parts in shaded mode, or anything in between.

Watch Christophe select parts, create content, and adjust the rendering displays of that content in under 90 seconds. It is yet another impressive and extremely usable functionality of 3DVIA Composer designed to further improve clarity and communication, and demonstrates our continued commitment to provide customer-requested enhancements.
