3DVIA Composer helps to build sustainable energy!

by

I found this article yesterday from Your Renewable News and thought I’d share it with you.

It mostly talks about the application of Dassault Systèmes software in a very sophisticated and experimental fusion energy devices called JET and its soon to be built ITER. Here’s an explanation from the article about this really cool sustainable energy device:

JET (Joint European Torus), located at Culham, UK, is a an experimental fusion energy device in which, by creating temperatures greater than that of the sun (around 100 million degrees C) and applying magnetic confinement, fusion of atomic nuclei takes place. The next stage of fusion technology development has started with the building of ITER, which is eight times larger in volume than JET...

Using 3D scanning for improved documentation

by

Ever had the need to document something in 3D, but not had the data in electronic, 3D format? Do you wish there was a better way to work with that data without having to spend hours re-modeling it in CAD?

Creaform used an innovative hand held scanning approach to combine existing CAD and physical data into a solution to meet a very demanding timeline to produce interactive assembly instructions for an aircraft OEM.

Click here and go to Page 16 to check out the article in this month’s digital edition of Design Product News.

 httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbalSg4_mQE

Did you know that you can merge multiple assemblies into one Composer project? And did you also know that there are alignment tools to help you get your parts located where you need them? And how about some other powerful tools for moving, aligning, and adjusting component positions?

Check out this week’s video tip! (And if you have a good internet connection, hit the “HQ” button and watch the video in full screen mode.)

We’re back!

We're Back!

Apologies for the little, er, technical glitch there the past few days. Our DSN woes have been resolved, and both the blog and the forum are back online.

Which reminds me to tell you that we have some big chages in store for the blog. I will be kicking the soap box aside, and giving you — our valuable readers — a better way to dialog with us. We’ll also be re-categorizing everything to make finding those video tips much easier too.

Stay tuned for those changes, coming this summer.

3DVIA your iPod #83: “Toolbars and Shortcuts”

by

In this episode, Tod shows us the flexibility of the 3DVIA Composer user interface and how to customize it to maximize productivity to the way you like to work.

Like toolbars? Watch and learn how to create custom toolbars.

Like keyboard shortcuts? See how to set them up and really turn on the afterburners when it comes to getting work done quickly.

Find your fast” is not just for 3DVIA Virtools and 3DVIA MP… when it comes to fast, 3DVIA Composer becomes super-fast when you customize the interface to your preferences. It’s one of the reasons we have such great ease and fun of use: nothing beats performance and a crisp, clean user interface.

Military Embedded Systems article

by

Interesting editorial in the Military Embedded Systems Technology Feature, written by Jeff Covert. There is a 3DVIA Composer video sample in the side bar.

I like his introduction to the side bar:

Gone are the days of trial and error, along with expensive mistakes and long training periods inherent in using static data. For example, when the avionics module is redesigned, the changes are automatically updated in the training materials. That means zero rewrites, quality checks, or out-of-revision documentation. This completely efficient process is made possible by leveraging the data found inside your PLM system.

The rest of the article is also interseting, and covers several other use cases.

The connection of PLM to the product documentation offers one additional benefit: the ability to hav...

Sir Richard Branson @ SWW \'09

Here we go again, poised for another successful showing of 3DVIA Composer at SolidWorks World 2009. Like last year, we will be within the SolidWorks booth area, with a very large monitor to serve out information to the masses that are certain to be swarming the booth.

Ok, I know it’s impossible to compete with Sir Richard Branson, so after you’re done with that general session, be sure to stop by and see what we’re all about, or just say “hello” if you’re already one of the many new Composer customers that have joined us this past year!

3D Digital Manufacturing: Treehuggers Unite!

by

tree hugger

I was just reading Patrick Michel’s article in Manufacturing Business Technology. It’s a pretty good read, as he makes people aware that “being green” in manufacturing doesn’t necessarily mean implementing the stereotypical alternative fixes such as solar panels on the plant roof.

While he is mostly talking about plant layout and simulation, using 3D web based digital manufacturing solutions, what really caught my eye was the comment someone gave at the end of the article:

The use of paper is still utilized and graphics and instructions are created for hand off to mechanics. It is in many cases too difficult to provide a laptop with the information, the laptop becomes cumbersome and difficult to maneuver and the opportunity for damage and theft to occur rises.

When you think about digital...

Welcome Felder KG to the 3DVIA Composer Family!

by

Felder KG

We would like to welcome Felder KG to the growing community of companies that have chosen 3DVIA Composer to enhance their assembly documentation and become more competitive.

My absolute favorite quote from the press release is when a SolidWorks VAR introduced Felder to 3DVIA Composer:

…our previously installed documentation solution didn’t have a chance, because it was an isolated application.

’nuff said about that! See the SolidWorks press release from last week for the full details.

A warm welcome to Felder!

On-demand Service Application

by

Happy New Year everyone!

Take a look at this article about Creation, a UK-based company that is making great use of 3DVIA Composer to bring real-time on-demand service instructions to in-service vehicles. (That’s my attempt for the New Year to link as many hyphenated words together in once sentence as possible!)

As mentioned in the article:

3DVIA Composer coupled with on-board vehicle breakage detectors provide condition reports and repair instructions that are also transmitted to base. 3D animated repair options are presented to the crew providing them the information they need to make better decisions in the event of breakage. This application of 3DVIA Composer is based on the same technical publications data that accompanies the vehicle into service to provide Z fleet operators with lower through life costs resulting from this advanced source of information.

It is...

Democratizate 3D and Win

by

Win with 3DVIA Composer

Take a look at this article from Industry Week. When discussing about the use of 3D CAD data in downstream departments such as manufacturing, service, training, spare parts, and others, the article states:

People working in those functional areas perform too much non-value-added work having to recreate images because they don’t have access to the CAD data. “Until they integrate these downstream processes, they’re never going to be lean,” Prawel says.

I couldn’t have said it better myself! Enabling downstream users to fully leverage 3D CAD data, and add their relevent context and knowledge into the that data, creates true information that not only improves communication, but improves companies’ ability to compete...

3DVIA Composer 10,000+ podcasts

I am extremely pleased to announce that this past weekend, we have surpassed 100,000 downloads of our 3DVIA Composer video podcasts.

Just over 2 years ago, I was crashing a trade show and needed a way to show prospects something about our product. Something visual and portable that I could use to highlight some interesting capabilities and examples of 3DVIA Composer. Toting my laptop around was not an option, and I thought to myself “if only I could hold something in my hand and show some examples of interactive documentation and animations”… and then I it hit me that I could use Composer to create some AVIs, and then convert those AVIs to iPod format and download them to my new video iPod. And thus our podcast series was born, with our very first podcast on November 6, 2006.

Now, over 80...
